Amsterdam is growing. Nearly a million people now live in the city, traffic congestion is increasing, and on summer days, temperatures can be up to 8 degrees Celsius higher than in the surrounding areas. Many residents long for more greenery and they’re ready to take action themselves. This is confirmed by research conducted by Stichting De Gezonde Stad and Motivaction.

On Saturday, 21 June 2025, the longest day of the year, Amsterdam will celebrate its 750th anniversary on the A10 Ring Road. For one day only, a section of the motorway will be transformed into a green oasis, featuring 750 large trees and 7,500 small trees. Trees for All will donate half of the small trees and ensure they are planted in and around the city after the event. In this way, the Birthday Forest will continue to grow — even after the anniversary year.

In partnership with De Groene Stelling, we will plant 75,000 trees across the Amsterdam metropolitan region. Together, we are launching a movement to make the city and its surroundings more resilient, healthy, and green. Not just for today, but for the next 750 years.
The Birthday Forest is an initiative of Stichting De Gezonde Stad, Bruno Doedens of Circle4Change and the City of Amsterdam. Made possible by entrepreneurs, civil society organisations, businesses and individuals.
Plant with usIf you donate a tree in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Region, together we will bring green back into the landscape, strengthen nature and create nice places for residents to catch their breath in greenery. We do this at various locations around Amsterdam where we plant native species in the form of woods, avenue trees, hedges and wooded banks. In this way, we connect natural areas with the city.

You can donate your tree/trees directly, e.g. using a credit card or iDeal. Payment by invoice is also possible.
As proof of your contribution, you’ll receive a personalised certificate with your name on it. We’ll send it to you by email.
With your donation, we are greening the Amsterdam Metropolitan Region. We do this together with our project partner De Groene Stelling. Collecting trees specifically for the Amsterdam region differs from our usual way of working. With a donation, we normally plant trees worldwide through our forest projects. We plant half of the donated trees in the Netherlands and the other half abroad. This is a conscious choice. Climate change is a global problem and its effects are felt everywhere. That is why we want to make an impact worldwide.
