The impact of trees

Trees are good for the climate, for biodiversity and for people. Find out more about the impact of trees and the forests we plant worldwide.

Trees are a powerful means of combatting climate change – and so much more! They provide oxygen, clean air and food. They cool our cities, combat drought and help prevent flooding. Moreover, they provide homes for countless species of plants and wildlife. Discover more about the positive effect of trees on the climate, on nature and on people all over the world.

Climate change and loss of nature don’t stop at our own borders, which is why Trees for All plants trees abroad, as well as in the Netherlands. We also protect existing forests and raise people’s awareness of the importance of trees.

To achieve these goals, we support tree planting and reforestation projects over the whole world. All these projects have a positive effect on the climate (both local and global), on biodiversity and on the people in the region. So, through one donation, you actually make three times the impact!

  • Plant new forests and reinforce existing forests with native tree and shrub species that can withstand climate change.

  • Green the countryside, so that biodiversity increases, the soil quality improves and the surroundings become greener and healthier.

  • Plant trees in and around cities, to combat heat stress and prevent flooding.

  • Plant trees together with the local people, whose lives are improved through the extra work, income, food or water provided by the forest.

  • Restore forests that sequester large amounts of carbon, such as the tropical rainforest on Borneo and the mangrove forests in Mexico.

  • Restore and expand the habitats of countless unique plants and animals, in order to protect biodiversity worldwide.

How the impossible came true: 50 hectares of grassland transformed into forest on Sulawesi

On Sulawesi (Indonesia) there are vast areas of grassland where tropical forests once grew. They are now covered mainly by choking grasses whose prolific growth prevents the formation of new forests. So we’ve been working since 2022 with the Masarang Foundation on transforming these grasslands into forest. ‘An impossible…
