25 highlights of 2025: thank you for your support!

The new year has begun! But not without first thanking you for your support and commitment in 2025. Thanks to all our donors, businesses, funds and partners, we were able to make a difference with trees all over the world. From green neighbourhoods in the Netherlands to new tropical forests in Indonesia: none of this would have been possible without you. 

Thanks to your support, we are able to:

1. Plant over 1.7 million trees in the Netherlands and abroad. 

2. Support more than 60 projects worldwide: from Amsterdam to Enschede, from Scotland to Spain, and from Mexico to Indonesia. 

3. Expand our projects in Europe: in addition to Belgium, Spain and Portugal, we are now also active in Scotland, Germany and Italy, partly thanks to the support of Hotels for Trees. 

4. Green 43 new neighbourhoods through our GroenDoen Fonds, made possible in part by Univé Buurtfonds and Vandebron. 

5. Reach 10,000 students with our Trees for Schools programme and green 7 new schools in Groningen, The Hague, Eindhoven, Rotterdam, Boxtel, Geldermalsen and Nijmegen. 

6. Plant our 400,000th tree in Het Groene Woud in Brabant, where we are expanding rare loam forests together with ARK Rewilding Netherlands. 

7. Plant 7 kilometres of hedgerows at the TNP business park in Bergen op Zoom, making the urban environment greener. 

8. Create a temporary forest on the A10 highway with trees in movable boxes, in honour of Amsterdam’s 750th anniversary, together with De Gezonde Stad and Circle4Change. 

9. Give those same trees a permanent home in and around Amsterdam, thanks to a large group of enthusiastic volunteers who helped us remove all the trees from their boxes.  

10. Complete the Renature programme, through which we planted 125,000 trees on and around farms across the Netherlands together with our partners Arla, BoerenNatuur and dozens of farmers. 

11. Plant 26 hectares (52 soccer fields!) of food forests to contribute to nature-friendly agriculture. .

12. Launch a pilot project with Brabants Landschap and Conclusion to monitor the growth of our forest in Brabant using AI. 

13. Thanks to Synchroon, plant around 400 hectares of new forest as part of our reforestation project in Tanzania, which was officially certified by Plan Vivo (an international standard for CO2 sequestration). 

14. Convert 50 hectares of grassland into tropical forest on Sulawesi (Indonesia) together with the Masarang Foundation, and, building on this success, launch a new reforestation concept to transform many more grasslands in South-East Asia into forest.  

15. Further expand the unique dry forests in Madagascar (of which only 3% remain worldwide!) where the birth of an endangered sifaka marks a hopeful sign of nature recovery.  

16. Protect the village of Petuk Barunai on Borneo against a new oil palm plantation by supporting the local communities in planting new rainforest.  

17. Conduct research with Biogrowth into the impact of reforestation on water availability in Bolivia, revealing that 225 hectares of forest have the potential to retain three times more water in the soil over a ten-year period.  

18. Contribute to the return of the nearly extinct Iberian lynx in Spain, which now has more habitat and improved chances of survival thanks in part to our landscape restoration efforts.  

19. Complete the planting of 25,000 trees in Costa Rica together with Stichting Adopteer Regenwoud, leading the Costa Rican government to actively support Adopteer Regenwoud’s reforestation work.  

20. Enter into inspiring collaborations with more than a 1,000 companies, including The Flower Farm, which encourages consumers of its palm-oil-free spreads to contribute to the restoration of tropical rainforest.

21. Organise an event in honour of our 25th anniversary together with our corporate partners, to inspire them around nature and sustainability and to thank them for their continued support. . 

22. Plant new forest together with our ambassadors Jennifer Hoffman and Son Mieux – with the band even giving an acoustic concert for a select group of donors near their future forest!

23. Plant a Green Friday Forest as a statement against Black Friday, strengthening this counter-narrative together with more than 2,000 consumers and businesses, including Intratuin, Marktplaats, Stayokay, Dille & Kamille and Appel & Ei. 

24. Make another statement in the run-up to Earth Day with the call ‘Make Earth Green Again!’, resulting in the planting of 6,085 trees. 

25. Further spread our mission and raise awareness about the importance of trees through our latest campaign on the power of trees for the climate, nature and ourselves.
