Towards Net Zero: carbon removal with broad impact

A growing number of companies are adopting a Net Zero strategy, in which reducing and offsetting carbon dioxide emissions go hand in hand. At Trees for All, we help you achieve this in a reliable and transparent way through our certified forestry projects. We are a non-profit organisation with over 25 years’ experience in carbon projects. Always with demonstrable impact on climate, biodiversity, and local communities worldwide.

What is Net Zero?

Net Zero (or net-zero emissions) means that we remove the same amount of greenhouse gases from the atmosphere as we emit. This balance helps to limit further global warming. CO2-projects can contribute to this if they are additional. Trees for All’s certified reforestation projects meet this requirement, as we always plant additonal trees for every tonne of CO2 emitted.

Net Zero roadmap

Reducing emissions is the foundation of any Net Zero strategy. Tree planting is a practical addition to demonstrably capture remaining emissions. The roadmap below helps you do this in a measurable and transparent way.

A strong Net Zero strategy starts with insight. Therefore:

  • Map your organisation’s current emissions;
  • Determine the year in which you aim to reach net zero (for example, in 2040 or 2050);
  • Develop a plan to reduce these emissions.

Some companies choose to have their reduction targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This global standard ensures climate targets are science-based and aligned with limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees. Even if all reduction targets are achieved, some emissions will remain. Estimating this so-called residual emission are the basis of your strategy.

Residual emissions can be offset through our certified reforestation projects, where CO2 is captured in a measurable way. Based on scientific data, we understand how different tree species develop and how much CO2 they capture annually.

Using this knowledge, we make a well-founded estimate of the number of trees to plant over a given period to capture the appropriate amount of CO2.

As the forest grows, CO2 sequestration increases. We explicitly account for this in the reforestation plan we develop together. For example, based on our project in Tanzania: reforesting 50 hectares captures over 600 tonnes of CO2 after 5 years. After 30 years, that same forest captures nearly 25,000 tonnes. In short, the earlier you start planting trees, the better.

The design of the reforestation plan depends on your ambitions. Aiming for Net Zero by 2040 requires a different approach than targeting 2050. Together, we select the scenario that best fits your ambitions, objectives, and timeline.

Our collaboration does not end after planting. We keep you informed about tree growth and actual CO2 sequestration. Based on updated emissions data or revised plans, you can adjust your planting strategy. This ensures your reforestation approach evolves alongside your organisation and its goals. Naturally, we are happy to support you in making well-informed decisions.

  • Verifiability: Multiple independent audits ensure that CO2 is genuinely captured, taking into account tree species, location, and growth stage.

  • Reliability: Only projects that pass rigorous assessment are certified by Plan Vivo. These credits are traceable via a public register maintained by S&P Global.

  • Additional impact: Our certified projects create new forests. You are making a tangible contribution to a more liveable world, as these forests would not exist without your support. The planting is not already funded by another organisation.

  • Broad impact: Projects are developed for and by local communities. In addition to CO2 storage, the trees enhance biodiversity and deliver socio-economic benefits such as additional income, food, or water.

Transparancy and verification

Trees for All is a non-profit organisation that operates in the voluntary carbon market. This means we do not trade in CO2 credits. Instead, we invest your contribution directly into our reforestation projects.

You receive a certificate stating your company name and the amount of CO2 captured. All credits (PVCs) are also registered in a public S&P Global registry, which shows how many credits a project issues and how many remain available. We can also indicate which credits are allocated to you.

All PVCs are uniquely numbered and fully traceable, preventing double counting or duplicate issuance..

Towards Net Zero together

Whether you are just starting your climate strategy or already well advanced, a Net Zero partnership helps build a robust and transparent approach. Together, we determine:

  • When you aim to reach Net Zero;
  • Your current and projected emissions;
  • How many hectares of forest are required based on your (expected) residual emissions;
  • How to communicate this transparently.
