The main aim of this new natural forest is to maintain and develop ecological values and natural processes in the forest. Stichting Ijssellandschap has therefore designated 13 hectares for planting a mixed deciduous forest. In total, approximately 30,000 trees and shrubs will be planted, spread over 8 different plots.
In order to increase biodiversity and vitality of the forest it is important to plant endemic tree species with rich insect life (e.g. English oak) and rich flowering (e.g. Rowan, Lime, Alder buckthorn). Furthermore trees have been planted that enrich the forest floor (e.g. Common hornbeam) and trees that are well suited to host birds of prey and mammals (e.g. Scots pine). This way we create a base for a vibrant and resilient forest that benefits both human and nature. A forest for the future.
Replacing diseased Norway spruces
Transforming into natural forest with deciduous tree species
Increasing biodiversity by planting a variety of deciduous trees
Developing a sustainable forest structure and natural forest edges
The Norway spruce forest is located in the municipalities of Deventer and Raalte. The plots are divided over the sub-areas Wechelerveld, Kranenkamp, De Hoek Ankersmit, Wesselink, De Hoek Oostermaet and bossen Heeten.
Since 1267 Stichting IJsselandschap, previously ‘de Verenigde Gestichten’, has managed and developed land, estates, farms and houses in the Deventer region. Through the centuries they have treated the land, nature, inhabitants and recreationists with care and respect. During this long period its assets have grown and increasingly served the inhabitants of both the cities and the rural areas. Stichting IJssellandschap therefore has a strong connection to the past. A past that serves as a source of inspiration for the future. A future in which we create space for innovation based on nature, sustainable agriculture, entrepreneurship and recreation.
