In Mexico, Trees for All is active in forest restoration and agroforestry (sustainable forestry and agriculture). We co-operate with Mexican environmental organization AMBIO. By means of planting new forest, CO2-compensation is possible. Will you take part?
The Mexican federal state of Chiapas is home to exceptional amounts of different forests, plants and animals. But during the last several decades, we have witnessed the disappearance of more and more nature, as a result of both large scale agriculture and wildfires. The consequences for the climate, biodiversity and the local population are enormous. All the more reason for Trees for All to take action.
Together with our Mexican partner AMBIO we are going to plant 191,150 new indigenous trees. In this way we will restore endangered sloping forests and provide shade in coffee-yards: an important source of income for local farmers.

The Mexican state of Chiapas faces huge challenges. The population is very poor. The people make a living by agriculture and cattle breeding, for which large areas of forest have been cut in order to provide for harvest and cattle. The consequences of this are enormous:
All of this causes farmers’ incomes to drop even lower. Besides, deforestation causes them to be exposed to extreme weather conditions. In essence, they are highly vulnerable.
Trees for All wants to stop the vicious circle. Together with our Mexican partner AMBIO, we are planting 71,000 trees. The project is twofold:
First of all, we are planting 100,000 new trees, comprising three local types of mangrove: the white, red and black mangrove. This will be done by planting new indigenous forest. Households in participating villages will plant the trees in community grounds. Think of indigenous species which have grown in the area, such as oak and cypress. Besides, we will plant endangered species of trees included in the IUCN Red List.
We help local farmers to cultivate their land in a more sustainable manner. How? By offering them an alternative to traditional agriculture: agroforestry. This blends sustainable agriculture with forestry. We plant coffee-yards with indigenous shady trees, thus protecting coffee plants from the sun. As a result, the coffee harvest is higher quality, logically rendering better market value. AMBIO offers farmers training and technical support in order to have them manage and maintain their land.

This project is certified by Plan Vivo. This is an international standard for carbon offsetting that focuses specifically on local communities in the project region. The standard guarantees carbon sequestration, sustainable land management, conservation of biodiversity and improved living conditions for local communities.
We are planting trees in various locations in the state of Chiapas. These locations are situated in buffer zones around protected nature reserves. Chiapas boasts the second highest biodiversity in all of Mexico. In short: enormous amounts of different plant and animal species are found here. The project enables us both to maintain endangered species and create new habitat for them.
Within this project we co-operate with AMBIO. This Mexican environmental organization in turn works closely together with local villages and farmers in Chiapas. They carry out the work in the areas and are responsible for the planting. AMBIO is a member of the International Union of Nature Conservation (IUCN).
