More than 190,000 trees and shrubs will be planted over a period of three years. The project contributes to achieving the national goals set by the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, to create a further 37,000 hectares of forest in the Netherlands by 2030. The project makes an important contribution to improving biodiversity, making the landscape more attractive and liveable, and offsetting carbon emissions.
The locations are spread throughout Limburg, in the districts of Venlo, Peel en Maas, Nederweert, Weert, Maasgouw, Eijsden-Margraten and Valkenburg aan de Geul, Venray, Gennep, Horst aan de Maas en Gulpen-Wittem.
The objective of het Limburgs Landschap is to protect valuable landscapes and nature areas in Limburg, including the many monuments that are part of these landscapes. Since 1931, the foundation has protected more than 9.000 hectares of nature, divided over approximately 90 natura areas and heritage sites throughout the entire province of Limburg.
Staatsbosbeheer, the state forestry service, is one of the parties that manages large forest areas in the Netherlands. Since 2012 Trees for All and Staatsbosbeheer work together to increase forest cover in the Netherlands. By now we have worked together on 9 forest projects.
“Many forests in North and Middle Limburg were planted on poor, sandy soil as coniferous forests for the production of wood. Thanks to Trees for All, Stichting het Limburgs Landschap now has the opportunity to plant varied deciduous forests on richer soil. It’s a wonderful boost to nature!”
