For example rows of trees, hedges, small groves of trees (green elements) or ditches, creeks and puddles (blue elements). Together, these form the green-blue veining of a landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/treesforall.nl\/en\/projects\/greening-the-countryside\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Landscape elements<\/a> attract various plants and animals. Consequently, landscape elements are incredibly important for maintaining healthy biodiversity ratios in the Netherlands. Unfortunately, approximately 60% of landscape elements in the countryside has disappeared during the last century. This has happened in part due to urbanization and the scaling up of agriculture. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Together with the Landschap Overijssel Foundation, we are committed to creating and restoring landscape features. In this way, we are making the countryside greener and more diverse: for a better climate, greater biodiversity and a healthy living environment<br><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column This is important for the climate, for biodiversity and for people. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><\/h3>\n\n\n<section class=\"wp-acf-block block-accordion \">\n    <div class=\"acf-innerblocks-container\">\n<div class=\"question\">\n    <div class=\"question-title\">\n        <h3>1. Trees, shrubs and other vegetation absorb and store carbon. They also provide shade and cooling, while helping to improve water management in the area. To illustrate, the number of insect species has decreased with 70%. And it\u2019s not only insects that are going through a tough time, but birds, mammals and fish are suffering as well. Landscape elements have the power to change this: plants and animals are able to find shelter, food and the possibility to procreate here. Many farmers in rural areas are keen to make their land greener, but when it comes to putting those plans into practice, they can use some support. We help them get started by developing plans that clearly outline which trees and shrubs they can plant and how to manage them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because ultimately, we all benefit from this. A greener and more diverse landscape provides shade and cooling, helps retain water, contributes to a healthy living environment, and creates space for plants and wildlife. We\u2019ll do this on the land of hundreds of farmers and private owners. We fill in the gaps in existing landscape elements and plant trees and shrubs among existing green. For instance, this is how an empty row of trees is able to transform into a full windbreak that attracts various plants and animals!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-3 wp-block-paragraph\">We plant local and indigenous trees and shrubs, such as European alder, European birch, downy birch, hornbeam, hawthorn, blackthorn, bird cherry, sessile oak, European buckthorn and willow. These are species of trees and shrubs that naturally grow in this area, supplemented by species that are important for the local area from a cultural heritage Landschap Overijssel takes the role of initiator, leader and consultant for this project. In addition, the province of Overijssel and various municipalities are involved in co-funding. Lastly, we cooperate with landowners that provide their land.
