Why is forest restoration in Tanzania so important? The beautiful documentary Chameleon Corridors shows exactly why. Through the eyes of a chameleon, you\u2019ll discover Tanzania\u2019s Eastern Arc Mountains \u2013 the place where Trees for All work and PAMS Foundation work together with local communities to restore and protect forests. This short film beautifully highlights the close connection between people and nature, and why reforestation matters so much. The film was directed by Jigar Ganatra and his Tanzanian team from African School of Storytelling (AFRISOS).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A unique biodiversity hotspot<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Eastern Arc Mountains are one of the world\u2019s most important biodiversity hotspots. These ancient forests are home to plant and animal species found nowhere else on earth. One of these remarkable inhabitants is the chameleon, which guides viewers through the story of the landscape and the people who depend on it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unfortunately the forests of the Eastern Arc Mountains are under threat from deforestation. As forests disappear, habitats become increasingly fragmented, putting chameleons and countless other species at risk. Deforestation also has a major impact on local communities. Unpredictable rainfall is causing more frequent crop failures, making it harder for families to plan for the future.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

A story of hope<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Through the eyes of a chameleon, we follow Anna, a young girl who sees her mother struggling with another poor harvest. She asks a simple but powerful question: \u201cIf we have been able to destroy nature, why can\u2019t we restore it?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That question inspires a movement of people working together to restore the landscape. Farmers, community members, and local leaders are joining forces to restore forests and promote sustainable land use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The documentary weaves their personal stories together with their relationship to the chameleon \u2013 an animal that is often feared in Tanzania, yet also reminds us how deeply connected people and nature really are.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Raising awareness for nature conservation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Chameleon Corridors is part of a campaign<\/a> to draw attention to the protection of the unique forests of the Eastern Arc Mountains. The film highlights the importance of biodiversity and shows how restoring nature can help create a better future for both people and wildlife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Children and the youth are actively involved in the campaign as well. Around the film\u2019s premiere, a two-day festival was organised featuring activities focused on nature, sustainability, and biodiversity. The documentary is also being screened in schools and at gatherings of farmers and conservationists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
